Dining-In-Scheme
Each student in Halls of Residence must buy into the compulsory Dining-In-Scheme, DIScount card. Students in the Village may purchase a DIScount card if they wish from the Catering Department.
Charges are £790 for the academic year. The cost is added to your Accommodation Invoice .
Your DIS card enables you to purchase food, confectionery and beverages from the catering facilities and the Shop. Tobacco and alcoholic drinks may not be bought with your DIScount card. You will receive a 10% discount when you use your DIScount card in the Main Hall and the Grandstand. The DIScount card is based on one meal per day, Monday to Friday, Term-Time. It is flexible for you use how and when you want to.
For compulsory purchase cards unspent amounts at the end of a students first year can be carried over into the next year. No refunds are made on DIScount cards for placements.
Funds may be transferred from an account to either "top up" an existing account or open a new one. Written details and the DIScount card should be taken to the Catering Department at any time during the first week of term and thereafter between 2pm and 3.30pm on Wednesdays. You may also add to your account (any amount from £10) by cash or cheque by presenting your payment and DIScount card to the Catering Department.
When you purchase food on your DIScount card please check your receipt, as mistakes cannot be rectified at a later date. In the event that you lose your DIS card please report it to the Catering Department immediately. A £5 charge will be made for a replacement card, the account can be cancelled and the money transferred to your new one.
If you are concerned about what catering is available to you because of any health/allergy problems please contact Michelle Brown, Catering Manager, who can advise you. We already cater for a wide range of diverse dietry requirements. If catering is unsuitable for you then a written Doctor's note for abstention from the scheme will be required.
