Members and supporters of Give to Sport
Luke Pearce (semi-professional rugby referee who is expected for big things): “...in some ways it was difficult to get on to the professional rugby refereeing ladder [even though I am still a young referee], it would have been better [especially when injured] if I had known that there are so many ways to be involved in sports without actually playing them. ..That is why I am a supporter of Give to Sport...anything that can help young sporting enthusiasts to get involved in sports suits me...”
Nyrene Wise (Plymouth City Council Sport Development Unit, who is involved directly with Plymouths Women’s Running Network): Nyrene works in Plymouth City Council’s Sport Development Unit and got her job from volunteering experiences. When Nyrene’s children were growing up, she was heavily involved in their sports clubs and holiday activities as a volunteer/helper. From these volunteering experiences she gained a variety of knowledge and work experience; Nyrene was then qualified to apply from a highly regarded job within her own local authority in sports development.
George Hatchell (Head Coach and Founder of Plymouth Marjon Cannons Basketball Club, Head Coach and Academy Leader UCP Marjon Basketball Squad): “...volunteering helps me maintain my passion for the game, and encourages me to develop young players and coaches...the best job I have ever had.”
Katy Wilson (Physical Education Teacher from Exeter who works with (and plays for) a number of sports clubs across Devon): “Working with children every day is hard work, it is even more difficult to hone and refine their practical skills so that they can develop as an athlete. It is therefore really important that they are a part of well managed sports clubs; for these clubs to function properly and to get the most out of their members, it is vital that they have a cluster of dedicated coaches, volunteers, officials and helpers. Give to Sport is a great way to help clubs find keen people that can help in the development of sports clubs across Devon and Cornwall...”
Krysten Coombs (National Table Tennis and Badminton Champion, he trains at Woolwell Table Tennis Club in Plymouth, and is coached by Commonwealth medallist Paul Whiting): Krysten has always been a sporting devotee, and his success represents his hard work. He does however rely on the commitment of his coaching team and family who fully support him. Krysten has been a supporter of Give to Sport from the first stages, and recognises how important it is for sport development for all.
